In my opinion, 80% of what makes a story popular are the number of “friends” which will digg your story. All the rest is 20% …

My experience has been that in order to get noticed and deemed “incredible” on sites like Digg you need to follow the format of the most popular articles on those pages. By using a tempting headline which includes a list e.g. “21 ways to get your site on the first page of Google” you will get a lot of attention even if the article is mediocre.

Like you I have spent a lot of time writing quality articles that didn’t end up getting much attention. Some of the stories that get to the home page of Digg are really crap. So the trick is to write quality content but present it in such a way that it gets noticed.

This is how I found your blog post – the title was appealing and the content was quality so I took the time to read it and to comment.
