Natalie Portman's career really took off when George Lucas gave her the role of Padmé Amidala in the second trilogy of Star Wars. Demanding in her artistic choices, Natalie then stars in the comedy drama Garden State by Zach Braff and closer by Mike Nichols. The latter film also earned Portman a 2005 Golden Globe for best actress in a supporting role, and a nomination for the Oscar for best actress in a supporting role.
Natalie Portman has also interpreted the theatre show The Diary of Anne Frank in 1997 and The Seagull by Anton Chekhov in 2001. Since 2007, Nathalie Portman maintains a relationship with the singer Devendra Banhart. Natalie Portman will be a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008, chaired by Sean Penn.
