I got a HP 2133 Mini netbook but the Seagate Hard Drive already has a major failure so I have to bring it back to replace the hard drive! ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

I got an early christmas and birthday present from my girlfriend and her mother, a brand new TomTom Go 920 GPS with maps of North America and Europe! I finally have a GPS! Wahoooo!! Now that I moved back to Montreal, it will definitely be useful to find my way around the beautiful city!

I bought the TomTom GPS on Wednesday and tested all it’s features, I also tried to set the French voice but to my greatest surprise, the voice of Juliette was a mixture of French, English and Spanish! It was absolutely impossible to use the Juliette voice in French!

In Quebec, it is dangerous to sell a product that doesn’t work in the French language! They are so stuck up with their french! (btw – I am French!) So Thursday I returned the TomTom at FutureShop and exchanged it for a another one. The same freaking problem! Oh My God, I thought! And the salesman told me I was the first to have this problem! Friday I returned once again and exchanged it for another one but this time when I first turned on the machine, instead of putting the default system language to english, I set it to french. And the Juliette french voice now worked! So with the system language in french, I tried the english computer language by Susan. Guess what… The English language did not work !

So if you want to change the computer voice from French, English or Spanish, you ALSO need to change the default system language! THAT IS A HUGE BUG in the TomTom GPS Systems! It affects the Go 920 and probably the 930, 720, 730 and others. Upgrading your TomTom GPS through the TomTom Home software will NOT fix this issue as of November 22nd 2008. Hopefully a software fix will be available soon…

Barack Obama

Democrat Barack Obama has won the U.S. presidential election at the expense of Republican John McCain, becoming the first black president in the history of the United States.

Obama, 47 years, will be invested the 44th U.S. president on January 20 2009.

By winning California, the senator from Illinois was assured of exceeding the threshold of 270 electors necessary to obtain a majority in the electoral college that will elect the next president of the United States. He also won the popular vote.

Scenes of jubilation welcomed the announcement of victory for Obama across the country, particularly in its stronghold of Chicago, where tens of thousands of people have taken heart the slogan of the candidate mestizo: “Yes, we can”.

Traveling 8391km, 36 hours in 9 days

I like traveling but 8,391km and 36 hours of moving around is too much in 9 days! An average of 932km per day! Ouch!

2,556km driving, 311km by Train and 5524km by Plane! I’m moving back to Montreal so I need to get some of my stuff, prepare my trip back home and say goodbye to my family.

I live with my girlfriend in Etaples in the north of France but my stuff is at my mother’s place in the south of France near Toulouse.

On Monday I drove 930km – about 9 hours straight. Two days in the south and Thursday I’m going back to my girlfriend’s in Etaples so that’s another 930km and 9 hours of driving in France. Friday I rented a small truck in Etaples to transport all my boxes to Le Havre, the port where the boat departs for Montreal. With return, that’s 440km and about 4 hours of driving. Then I spend my last weekend in 2008 with my girlfriend before I leave to Brussels to see my family on Monday, 262km – about 2 hours 30 mins. Wednesday morning, I’m taking the Thalys TGV train from Brussels to Paris to catch my plane which departs at 12h25! 311km – about 1h30 hours. I hope I don’t miss it! And finally the big trip by plane, Paris to Montreal, 5524km and 7 hours flight. Friday I have an important interview for a job as a Online Marketing Manager in Montreal! Ouch!

That’s a total of 8,391 km – about 36 hours of traveling in 9 days!

The arrival of the Asus EeePC, in addition to the earthquake it caused in the tech world, is simply a product which marketers secretly dream of every night. The Asus EeePC has created a new market! Or at least the EeePC offers a demand which had not been expressed.

Asus has acquired a few lengths of advance, the competition seized by surprise (but not very attentive to its market because the earthquake was predictable), is having a little trouble to catch up to the Asus EeePC. The competition is offering products intended to be EeePC killers but they are not very convincing to say the least.

Until the Acer Aspire One. Wow, a real competitor this time!

The Acer Aspire One is the only netbook whose designers seem to have really understood the keys to the success of the Asus EeePC (which is not only it’s price) but weight, size, functions, ease of use and no hard drive. Yes, the lack of hard drive, proving that sometimes deleting an item may become a marketing argument, no hard drive means a longer lasting battery, greater reliability and faster to use.

In fact it is simple, if we rely solely on the features announced, the Acer Aspire One is like the Asus EeePC, only better. Or rather, it does everything better or at least as well. Same size but better design, same weight, WiMax and 3G will be available soon, compatible with multiple memory cards (only one on the EeePC), intelligent memory management that takes into account the different cards installed to merge into a single memory space. It’s impossible to install software on the external memory cards on the Asus EeePC but not a problem with the Acer Aspire One.

All of this for an identical price, from $299 for the first model. Voir les offres sur PC Portable Occasion. Well ok, Acer does not enjoy the best reputation for the design and reliability, but the EeePC is no longer alone on in the netbook subnotebook market.

Remembering 9/11

7 years since 9/11. Let’s remember the tragic events and think about all the heroes who lost their lives on that horrible day.

The expression “attacks of September 11th, 2001 (9/11)” designates a series of dramatic events which took place in the North-East of the United States on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Four airliners are diverted, three of them are projected against buildings which are highly symbolic systems: the twin towers from the World Trade Center in Manhattan, in New York, and the Pentagon, home of the Department of Defense from the United States, in Washington. The Twin Towers crumbled less than 2 hours later bringing down the Marriott World Trade Center in their fall. Tower 7 of the WTC crumbled in the afternoon. The fourth plane crashed in open country in Shanksville, in Pennsylvania.

The report of the National Commission on terrorist attacks against the United States, published at the end of August 2004, concluded the responsibility of the Al-Qaida Terrorist network, by affirming that the nineteen hijackers implied in these suicide attacks were members and that the silent partner was Oussama ben Laden who was pleased with these attacks in a video seen on November and December 2001. The institutional explanation was however disputed and that generated some plot theories blaming mainly the Bush administration.

These attacks were almost lived in real-time by hundreds of million televiewers throughout the world, the images of the plane crashing into the second tower of the World Trade Center having been shown on line, as well as the complete collapse of the three towers of the WTC in Manhattan. The psychological shock was considerable on an international scale. These attacks generated powerful and persistent effects, in particular political and economic. The US government instituted a sedentary legislation and, by denouncing a new “Kind of Evil”, launched out a “war against terrorism”.

The direct victims of these events were quantified to 2.973 dead and 24 missing. Several thousands of wounded people and the thousands of others, in particular among the rescuers, are contaminated by diseases induced by the inhalation of toxic dust.

We should all remember 9/11 and hope that such a disaster never happens again.

Michael Phelps born June 30, 1985 in Baltimore Maryland, is an American swimmer, fourteen times Olympic champion. Michael Phelps’s overwhelming dominance earned him nicknames such as The Baltimore Bullet.

In 2004 at the Olympics in Athens, Michael Phelps equaled the record of medals in one Olympics owned by gymnast Alexander Dityatin. Michael Phelps won eight medals, including six gold.

Micheal Phelps international titles and numerous world records have earned him the title of Swimmer of the year four times in a row, and All time American swimmer six years in a row.

During the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, he entered the legend by winning eight gold medals in eight events where he participated. He also beat seven world records and one Olympic record. Michael Phelps has beat the record number of Olympic titles won at the same Olympics, surpassing the performance of swimmer Mark Spitz (seven titles), established in 1972. Michael Phelps is also the most titled athlete in the history of the Olympics, with fourteen gold medals in total.

Usain Bolt wins the 100 meter race in 9.69 seconds at 2008 Beijing Olympic Games!

Usain Bolt is born on August 21, 1986 in Trelawny Parish and is a Jamaican athlete specialist in the sprint races and holder of world records for 100m (9 secs 69) and 200m (19 secs 30), these two records have been established at the Olympic Games in Beijing on 16 and 20 August 2008.

Usain Bolt World Record on 200 meter race

Usain Bolt becomes at 15 years old and 332 days the youngest World Junior champion in history of the 200 meters race, running the distance in a time of 20 seconds 61. He wins in April 2004 at only 18 years old, the junior world record of 200 meters in 19 s 93.

With 19 secs 75 obtained in 2007 for 200m at the Jamaican national championships, Usain Bolt qualifies for the World Championships in Osaka. In August, Bolt finishes second in the final won by American Tyson Gay.

His coach had promised Usain Bolt to let him run the 100 meters if he could run the 200m in less than 19 s 8. At the national championships in 2007, Usain Bolt crushed the national record of Don Quarrie who was the Olympic champion for the 200m in the 1976 Olympic Games, his record which dates from 1971 (19 secs 86) Usain Bolt ran in 19 secs 75. Usain Bolt than began his incredible rise.

On 3 May 2008, Usain Bolt wins the second best performance of all time for 100 meters by winning the event at the Jamaica International Invitation with a time of 9 secs 76.

Then, Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the meeting in New York, Usain Bolt sets a new world record for the 100 meters in 9 secs 72 this being his fifth 100 metres race. Usain Bolt beats Tyson Gay’s record by more than one tenth of a second.

During the final 100 meters at the Olympic Games in Beijing on August 16, 2008, Usain Bolt beats his own world record with a time of 9 secs 69 also slowing down some twenty meters from the finish line and won the title Olympic. His left shoe laces were untied!

On 20 August, he won the 200m race in 19 secs 30. Usain Bolt beats the previous world record of Michael Johnson at 19 secs 32 during the Atlanta Games in 1996. Usain Bolt is the first to win both the 100 meters and 200 meters since Carl Lewis in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984. Usain Bolt is also the first to beat both world records in a single Olympiad.
