“Later Time” Music and Video by Xarj

I created the song ‘Later Time’ a long time ago with the base piano chords and a certain rhythm. When i lived in the Basque Country in France, I met Philippe Boudal at Quiksilver, we were both in our internships. During one of our numerous music sessions, I showed Phil this song I had recorded and he loved it! So he recorded his own vocal part, I had already recorded a version of the music with my own voice.

In the Basque country there is one thing I really enjoyed watching, big waves in the Atlantic Ocean! I love to film surfers on big waves and also virgin waves. So one afternoon I went to the beach in Anglet and filmed the waves during a big winter swell. This is exclusively what is seen on the video attached to this post. Nice, simple music video. I think you can’t go wrong with waves!

The Lion Sleeps Tonight – Music Video

Today is a special day (February 29th) and I have prepared something very special for you! I’ve spent long hours in Adobe Premiere working on my latest project “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. I also sing in french so the title is “Le Lion est mort ce soir”.

I started by filming myself playing the piano, bass, strings, vocals and dancing. Imported everything into Adobe Premiere. This video editing software is definatly NOT to create music. I had to create an audio track with a perfect metronome beat to follow. All the recordings had to be perfectly synchronized and in tempo otherwise they are completely useless. I wasted lots of time to figure this out! You NEED a tempo audio track to structure your music in Adobe Premiere.

After the filming was complete, I created the music using audio/video loops in Adobe Premiere. Audio/Video loops in Premiere means there is a Stop Motion work. The video is repeated with the music to create the loop. Once I was satisfied with the music, I started working on the video mixing. I could not work on both the audio and video mixing at the same time. The audio first then the video so the audio had to be perfect as I could not go back and edit it. I had 5 audio tracks and 5 video tracks. A lot to manage!

My intention was to show how the music was played so most of the time, you’ll see all the audio tracks being played. Also notice the dancing parts, me “au naturel” and me featuring a Darth Maul Halloween mask. I thought it would be funny to have Darth Maul dance on my video!

Once the video mixing was done I added the beginning and ending titles and encoded the whole project. Voila!

My Stop Motion Music Video inspired by Lasse Gjertsen

I was watching videos on Youtube when i found a series of stop motion video clips. People playing instruments; piano, guitar, beatbox and drums. The sound and video tracks had been cut in a stop motion manner. This creates a new type of video with very original sound track. Especially in the case of Lasse Gjertsen with his famous Amateur video. I always like to try making new kinds of videos so I paid attention to the way the videos were made and tried to reproduce my own version of a stop motion chef d’oeuvre.

Started out by filming myself for all different parts I needed: Playing piano, beatbox, vocals, hi hats… Transfered the recorded video from my Canon MVX330 onto my computer using Adobe Premiere. Then the long part, mixing. Spent approx 3-4 hours to mix this video. It’s very time consuming and if you haven’t really thought about your project before, you can end up with a deceiving result. I’m not unhappy with my video but I had expected it to be better! Let me know what you think!

CRAZY FACE PICTURE !

I don’t look that crazy but my video is a little out of the ordinary so i called “Xarj is Going Crazy”. Recorded the footage in l’atelier on April 14th, 2007 and produced the video with Adobe Premiere.

Useless Artistic Video from the TARN in France

Sometimes i get bored, sometimes i feel like making a new video and sometimes i have the free time to do it. This is one of these moments! It doesn’t mean the video clip will suck! Just means the video does not have a direct and clear purpose for existence. Like 95% of the videos on YouTube, this video clip is just for the hell of it and because i have the ability to perform this task. Being able to distribute the video by means of a Blog & Podcast and websites like YouTube is a help to find the motivation to complete this task. What’s the point of making something nice and cool if you are the only one to enjoy it? Ok, lots of people do things for themselves but isn’t it so much better to share your work with others? I think it is! You probably do too since you are reading this on my Blog & Podcast. Lots of assumptions! Too many? I don’t think so! lol It’s lovely to write non-sense on your personal Blog! The best place to do it! Don’t you think? I do!

Anyways!

This Useless Artistic Video Clip from the Tarn in France is comprised of two parts; Music and Video.

I made the music on December 13, 2005 and called it “Pepper Corn”. It’s a good song made entirely from Sample Loops in Acid Pro.

I filmed the video on December 25, 2007 in the village i currently live in : Laboutarié. Laboutarié is in the Tarn Department in France and has a population of 387. Damm that isn’t many people! And I don’t really know any of those 387 people! The population in the Tarn has augmented by less than 4% in the last one hundred years! WOW THAT IS CRAZY! I can say nothing ever happens where i currently live! Can’t wait to move away!

Anyways!

The video is made up of clips i filmed while driving in Laboutarié. I cut the footage in a special manner which has deep significant meaning to the world around us. Tell me how this video speaks to you. What do you feel while watching?

During my internship at Quiksilver Europe, i got a huge sticker of the Quiksilver Logo. That genius logo with a wave falling on a mountain! Quik Powa! My buddy Sebastien Lopez was living at my place in the Basque Country. I had tons of cool statues in my room i decided to animate! Took me a couple hours and 194 photos to create this 56 seconds Stop Motion Frame by Frame. I used Premiere to create the animation.

Back in May 2005, i went for a walk in Anglet with my sister and our dog Titus at the longest break wave in southern France. It takes about 20-30 minutes to walk to its furthest point into the sea. I had my camera and took tons of cool pictures of interesting textures. For the video, i modified some photos in Photoshop and imported them into my video project. Added a song i had made earlier called IL FAIT BEAU and voila!

Philippe and I started out by creating the great musical song : “Sunday Morning” and then decided the song was good enough it deserved a Music Video Clip! So we took the camcorder to the La Barre beach in Anglet France and waited to low tide so we could access the sand beach. If you look at the waves in the background, you’ll conclude that day was a BIG SURF day! If i remember correctly, the Surf Report annonced 4m and up. La Barre which is a protected by Diggs always breaks much smaller than the rest of the Anglet beaches like Les Cavaliers. On that day, La Barre was filled with white water! Surfer’s all had to get closer to Spain where the waves are smaller since the swell doesn’t hit with it’s full force.

So on the video, Phil and I dance on the beach with the white water in the background. The big load of rocks on the other side of the beach to stop the high tide. I love to put videos backwards so some parts have benefited from that effect. Back then i lived in St Pierre D’Irube 64990. We had a huge garden and one side of the house had a clear white wall I use in this video. You’ll see me with a wigg (like Phil) with my old dog Titus who passed away a few months later.

I filmed the footage in 16:9 Widescreen format but you are watching it 4:3. In adobe Premiere i wasn’t able to modify it so the various players around would automatically play it in the right 16:9 format. Too bad! I have the original copy on my hard-drive and I can watch it the proper way!

The song is great! Nice piano looop intro, perfect mix of guitar and piano with amazing vocals by Philippe Boudal.

La fete de la musique 2006 à commencé le 21 juin. Moi j’étais à Toulouse à la grande place du Capitole dans le coeur de la ville. Il y avait des concerts partout dans les rues, des petits artistes telle que moi qui fesait profiter les passants de leurs douce mélodie. Sur cette Place du Capitole a Toulouse, un concert immense avec un DJ francais connu… Donc voici une petite vidéo de l’évènement! Remarquez ce jeune enfant étrangé qui dance A FOND sur la musique pendant que les passants l’admire et ses parents l’encourage! Que du bonheur!
